Brothers of Saint Martin of Buea Holds Second General Chapter, Elects New Leadership

From October 16 to 23, 2024, the Congregation of the Brothers of Saint Martin of Buea convened its second conclave since its founding by the late Bishop Pius Suh Awa. The gathering aimed to reflect on the congregation’s charism, spirituality, and apostolate, and to chart a renewed path forward. Facilitated by Marist Brother Ivo Njongai, FMS, the conclave was held under the guidance of His Excellency Bishop Michael M. Bibi of the Diocese of Buea. Following days of prayer, conferences, and deliberations, the Brothers discerned the need for a change in leadership. On October 20, 2024, during a pontifical Mass at Divine Mercy Co-cathedral, Bishop Michael Bibi officiated the installation of the newly elected leadership. The new leaders include

  • Br. Jude Fonyuy – Vicar General
  • Br. Eric Wanyu – First Councilor
  • Br. Lectarus Yuh – Second Councilor
  • Br. Mackinlay Ewane– Third Councilor
In his homily, Bishop Bibi charged the new leaders to emulate the servant leadership of Jesus Christ and their patron saint, Martin de Porres. He emphasized the importance of humility, dedication, and unity in their mission to guide the congregation.
In his inaugural address, Br. Siengfred M’sene expressed gratitude to Bishop Bibi and the faithful of Divine Mercy Co-cathedral for their unwavering support. He called on his fellow Brothers and councilors to transform their challenges into opportunities for growth, urging them to work tirelessly to rebuild and revitalize the congregation. “A new era has dawned for our congregation,” he declared. “This is our moment to re-found and realize the vision of our founding father.”
The installation concluded with a celebration attended by members of the Catholic Men Association and the local Christian community, marking a hopeful beginning for the congregation’s future. The Congregation of the Brothers of Saint Martin of Buea continues its mission of service and spiritual growth, inspired by the legacy of its founder and the renewed vision of its newly installed leadership.
